Life Cycle Assessment

The goal of Carl Oscar is to produce and sell products in a responsible way. Therefore, we have made a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) of our products. The purpose is to understand and improve our negative impact, as well as further enhancing our positive impact and assist our customers how to reduce their climate impact when using our products.

Our motto is that Carl Oscar’s products should be used as much and as often as possible. This means that they will be exposed to both tough conditions and a lot of wear and tear. Offering most parts of our products as spareparts is therefore important for us. We believe that our customers of course should be able to replace a worn gasket or a lost lid and thus further extend the life of their product instead of throwing it away and buy a new one.

Understanding our environmental impact through a Life Cycle Analysis

Sustainability entails three perspectives or dimensions: environmental-, social- and economic sustainability, the so-called triple-bottom-line.

By default, production and use of resources has a negative impact on the environment. Therefore, Carl Oscar has during 2023-24, invested in measuring our baseline impact of most of our products to better understand our environmental impact (specifically within the climate change impact category), and circular strategies for reducing it.

Carl Oscar’s Carbon Footprint

By measuring the carbon footprint of our products, Carl Oscar has established a baseline which we aim to reduce with future efforts in collaboration with our producers and customers.

While measuring the carbon footprint, we have gained insight into the areas with greatest climate change impact, so-called hotspots, which allows us to target areas of concern.

Circular Economy

A Carl Oscar product is by default designed to last for a long time, i.e. applying the circular principle of slowing down the amount of resources flowing through our economy. Since the product lasts for a long time, in theory, less new products need to be produced to satisfy demands.

Carl Oscar further offers other circular solutions: instead of purchasing an entire new product, a component can be purchased to replace a missing or broken part. Additional strategies include the option of choosing Tritan Renew instead of regular Tritan.

3 Ways to Reduce Your Climate Impact as a Customer

Carl Oscar is actively working with additional strategies and aims to reduce our climate change impact. Since you as a customer purchase and use the products of Carl Oscar, you are also a part of the life cycle of the product and use of resources.

Therefore, you can also contribute to reduce your own impact as well as influence our supply chain: for example by choosing Tritan Renew instead of regular Tritan waterbottles.

Replace a Part

Replace a component if it is missing instead of buying a whole new product. Replacing a component has been estimated to have a significantly lower carbon footprint than purchasing a complete product.

Use and Reuse

By using your product for a longer time, the carbon footprint of the materials, production and distribution are spread over more years, reducing the carbon footprint impact and resource use per year for each year that you continue using your product.
